Young African Leaders Initiative’s (YALI) involvement with the Empowering Youth Civil Society to Build Stronger Communities in Nigeria Project has contributed to significant change in Nasarawa State, equipping young people with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to champion climate action. EcoSusNet, one of the 15 youth CSOs trained by NGYouthSDGs, reached and trained YALI, further strengthening its capacity to promote sustainable practices and engage youth in policy advocacy.

Empowering Youth as Climate Champions
The project has empowered YALI’s youth community to become vocal advocates for sustainable development. With increased climate awareness, many young people now actively promote eco-friendly practices within their communities. As a result, there’s been a noticeable shift towards climate-conscious behaviour, strengthening grassroots support for environmental sustainability.

Strengthened Advocacy and Policy Influence
YALI’s participation in the project significantly enhanced its ability to mobilise youth and community members for climate action. By developing effective advocacy strategies during the project, YALI successfully engaged local authorities and decision-makers to gain stronger support for climate policies. This improved capacity has positioned YALI as a key player in advancing environmental policies that promote climate resilience in Nasarawa State.

Advancing YALI’s Mission
This project has directly contributed to YALI’s mission of promoting environmental sustainability and youth empowerment. By advocating for climate action and fostering meaningful youth participation in decision-making processes, YALI has reinforced its commitment to creating a more just and sustainable future for all. The project’s impact continues to inspire youth leaders to drive climate solutions within their communities, strengthening collective efforts for environmental protection.

Conclusion
YALI’s involvement in the Empowering Youth Civil Society to Build Stronger Communities in Nigeria Project demonstrates how empowering youth organisations can drive impactful climate action. Supported by NGYouthSDGs and funded by the Federal Republic of Germany in Nigeria, this success story underscores the power of collaboration in promoting climate resilience and sustainable development in Nasarawa State.
