We are thrilled to announce a significant achievement in Nigeria’s climate resilience agenda! Youth-led civil society organizations (CSOs) in Kaduna, Nasarawa, Ondo and Enugu have launched the Local Adaptation Plan of Action (LAPA) for their respective states under the Empowering Youth Civil Societies to Build Stronger Communities in Nigeria project, implemented by NGYouthSDGs with financial support from the German Embassy in Nigeria.

Localized solutions are essential for Nigeria to harness its potential in addressing the impacts of climate change as the country moves toward the 2030s. These tailored strategies will play a crucial role in adapting to and mitigating the challenges posed by climate change in the region, and integrate youth voices into state-level climate governance.

How It Was Developed:

The LAPA process involved youth-led consultations and stakeholder and community dialogues that we led with:

✅ Government representatives

✅ Community leaders

✅ Religious leaders

✅ Civil society organizations

✅ Women’s groups

🏆 Persons with disability (PWDs)

✅ Youth representatives and farmers

Through these engagements, youth CSOs mapped climate risks and adaptation needs and co-developed sustainable solutions tailored for their local communities.

What’s Next?

The LAPA documents have been disseminated among all relevant stakeholders and include relevant aspects of the implementation in state-level climate policies.

The measures identified through these efforts should be integrated into and reflected in government policies, with ongoing advocacy to have this buy-in from the government and for these strategies to be implemented.

The fight against climate change requires bold action and collaboration. We call on policymakers, development partners, and the private sector to support the implementation of these plans and invest in youth-led climate resilience initiatives.
