COVID19 has launched us into another era of work, and much as we don’t like the sound of it, it is indeed our new reality. The impact of COVID19 on the different work environments and conditions varies from sector to sector, however, there are some peculiarities that cut across every sector. I sat with Sam Akinlotan, an experienced talent management specialist to discuss how to build a formidable career in the new normal.
Access to decent work has been a challenge even before the COVID19 era, and this quest is even more intense in the post-COVID era. As a youth, faced with these obvious challenges, the answer is not to sit back and relax, blaming all your ineffectiveness on Covid-19.
It is only right and smart for you to reposition yourself to meet the demands of the new work conditions COVID19 have created for us. Some areas to consider include;
- Know your advantages in your workplace and develop your strength in that area.
- Have global intelligence i.e. broaden your ability to work and relate with people from different kinds of culture and background.
- Develop soft skills that are relevant to the current demands of work.
- Develop your value potential so that you will always be relevant in your work environment.
- Develop career intelligence i.e. understanding how the key players in your career make money and how they run their various businesses or institutions.
