NGYouthSDGs is looking for a Communications Manager experienced in leading communication in the non-profit or civil society sector. The Communications Manager will be responsible for developing and executing comprehensive communication strategies to enhance our organisation’s brand visibility, and reputation, and creatively tell our impact story as it relates to youth development and sustainable development. This role will involve leading internal and external communications initiatives, managing media relations, and overseeing digital and traditional marketing channels, especially in the civil society or non-profit sector.

About NGYouthSDGs
Nigeria Youth SDGs (NGYouthSDGs) registered as the Network of Youth for Sustainable Initiative is a youth-led and youth-serving civil society organisation focused on youth leadership for sustainable development.

NGYouthSDGs focuses on education, leadership development, employment and livelihoods and civic participation to support young people in communities across Nigeria to challenge poverty, injustice and discrimination. We provide capacity building for young people to work with youth stakeholders to advance the rights of young people. We seek to work with partners to influence transformative change and mobilise policy actions that will improve the lives of young people.

Job Description
The Communications Manager plays a pivotal role in ensuring effective communications within our organisation. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Communications Manager will be the voice and storyteller of our organisation. You will be responsible for crafting compelling messages, managing media relations, and ensuring consistent branding across all channels. With your strategic thinking and creative flair, you will drive engagement and build strong relationships with stakeholders.

What you will be doing

  • Develop and implement strategic communication plans to support organisational goals and objectives.
  • Create engaging content for various communication channels, including websites, social media, press releases, newsletters, and marketing materials.
  • Manage media relations, including cultivating relationships with media partners, pitching stories, and responding to media inquiries.
  • Oversee the production of marketing materials, such as presentations, and promotional materials, ensuring consistency and alignment with brand guidelines.
  • Monitor and analyse media coverage, social media metrics, and website traffic to measure the effectiveness of communication efforts and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, including programmes, operations, and executive leadership, to align communication strategies with our organisation’s objectives and priorities.
  • Serve as a spokesperson for the organisation, representing our brand and values in interviews, presentations, and public events.
  • Provide communications support for crisis management and issues management situations as needed.

Experience, Knowledge and Technical Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Experience in leading communications in the non-profit or civil society sector.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling messages for different audiences and communication channels.
  • Experience in media relations, including pitching stories, developing press releases, and managing media inquiries.
  • Ability to creatively curate and tell impact stories for positive change.
  • Proficiency in digital marketing tools and platforms, including social media management tools, content management systems, and analytics tools.
  • Creative thinker with a keen eye for detail and a passion for storytelling.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in multicultural teams and multicultural environments.
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken)
  • Diplomatic with strong interpersonal skills, and a high degree of cultural sensitivity.


  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in communications, public relations, or marketing roles, with demonstrated success in developing and implementing communication strategies, especially within a non-profit or civil society organisation.
  • Previous work experience in the Non-profit or civil society sector is preferred, but not a requirement.
  • Proactive leader with excellent communication and relationship skills; demonstrating also the ability to prioritise and effectively manage competing work streams and deliverables.
  • Ability to use canva and video editing tools.
  • Ability to work independently with strong time management skills.
