36 Young Nigerians to Attend First #UN75 Youth Dialogue With UN Deputy Secretary General

January 1, 2020, saw the launch of the UN75 initiative – the largest, most inclusive conversation on the role of global cooperation in building a better future for all. The initiative will see the UN spark dialogues throughout 2020 in diverse settings across the world.

In a ‘global reality check’, four innovative data streams will build the first-ever repository of crowd-sourced solutions to major global challenges.

The UN75 dialogues together with a ‘One-minute Survey’ that anyone can take, opinion polling in 50 countries and artificial intelligence sentiment analysis of traditional and social media in 70 countries, will generate compelling data to inform national and international policies and debate.

Nigeria will host the first-ever dialogue on the African continent which will have the United Nations Deputy Secretary-General, Amina J. Mohammed alongside thirty-six (36) young Nigerians. The dialogue which is geared towards the 75th anniversary of the United Nations will focus on the role of the international cooperation in building the future we want.

The National Project Coordinator of Nigeria Youth SDGs Network, Mr Joshua Alade said “This conversation is coming at a great time especially as we have just ten years to deliver on the Sustainable Development Goals and the urgent need to involve young people in the process of creating a better world as they will be the one to live in such a world. Furthermore, young people are increasingly demanding more just, peaceful, equitable, progressive and sustainable societies. They are a testament to the ability to think outside the box and to develop innovative solutions for society as a whole. In that context, there is a need to address the multifaceted challenges faced by young people such as poverty and hunger, for many, as well as access to quality education, health, decent employment, gender equality, and climate change.”

The conversation which will happen on Tuesday the 11th of February in Abuja, Nigeria will also be shown live on Channels Television as well as the  UN Web Tv from 10 am gmt+1 is hosted by the United Nations Information Centre to engage young Nigerians in the decade of delivery of the SDGs.
