CALL FOR NOMINATIONS: Stories of Young Human Rights Educators

Amnesty International (AI), Soka Gakkai International (SGI) and the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) (hereinafter the “Organizers”) are working together to develop a multimedia educational tool narrating stories of young human rights educators.

The multimedia educational tool will feature 7 short videos, of five minutes each, of young persons from different regions of the world significantly involved in human rights education. They will be able to express themselves in their mother tongue (the videos will have subtitles in Arabic, English, French and Spanish).

The stories will showcase young educators’ work. They will illustrate how human rights and human rights education changed their lives and inspired them to actively contribute to improving their communities by becoming human rights educators themselves. The stories will reflect diversity in terms of geographic and gender considerations, socio-economic background, ethnicity and abilities, as well as different thematic human rights education focus.

In order to identify the young candidates to be featured in the videos, the Organizers are sending this call for nominations to a selected group of:

·         international and regional inter-governmental human rights organizations

·         international and regional non-governmental human rights organizations

·         international and regional non-governmental organizations dealing with youth education, and

·         international and regional youth networks.

The Organizers would be grateful if your entity, organization and/or network could nominate up to three young human rights educators, as candidates for the stories to be featured in the videos.

 Criteria for nominations

·         AGE: from 18 to 30 years of age

·         EXPERIENCE: The candidate has conducted human rights education, especially for and with young people, for a substantive period of time (more than one year), and has advocated for human rights education in the community or country concerned

·         IMPACT: The candidate’s human rights education work has contributed to positive human rights change. There is evidence of the positive impact of the candidate’s human rights education work at a personal and community level.
