NGYouthSDGs Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning Manager, Mrs Oluwabukunmi Obadeyi, representing at the Annual Steering Committee

As one of the partners of Generation Unlimited Nigeria, we joined other public and private sector partners for the annual steering committee meeting.

The annual steering committee meeting was a gathering to celebrate the achievements and collective results of all Generation Unlimited partners. Generation Unlimited Nigeria is a public-private partnership led by UNICEF, aimed at equipping youths with essential skills and economic opportunities.

Represented by our Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning Manager, Mrs Oluwabukunmi Obadeyi, we were there to learn more about the impactful work of Generation Unlimited partners, significantly reaching 9 million young people and children through various programs.

The discussions highlighted the critical role of education and digital skills in addressing the challenges faced by Nigerian youth, ultimately inspiring collective action for a brighter future because the youths are the transformative energy of society.

The event was opened by Ms Celine Lafoucriere, who is the GenU 9ja lead.  She stated that GenU is led by UNICEF with one mandate, which is a basic human right. It aims to prepare youths for jobs and make sure they also become generational agents of change, so that they can align with UNICEF in delivering its mandates, when it comes to leading the world, and making sure that children who are living in poverty are also equipped with the skills and the opportunities to be able to be part of the economy, not only from the fabric.

With an ambitious goal of empowering 20 million young people in Nigeria by 2030,  8.98 million young people have been equipped with skills and connected to livelihood opportunities over the past three years through various programs, reinforcing the commitment to empowering Nigeria’s youth for a better future.

The necessity of education, youth participation, and their voices in driving social and economic development was underscored. The importance of supporting young individuals as agents of change, and recognising their future roles as parents and community leaders was emphasised.

The contributions of various partners were acknowledged, with a strong call to accelerate efforts to meet the 2030 target and ensure sustainable progress.

As a youth-led organisation equipping young Nigerians through programs that address development issues, and also advocate for policies that support the livelihood of young people, our partnership with GenU9JA signifies another opportunity to expand our work towards the meaningful engagement of Nigerian Youth.
