Three champions of Nigeria Youth SDGs Network have just completed six weeks online course on Monitoring and Evaluation of Youth Employment Programmes. The course organized by the International Labour Organization (ILO) in partnership with the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) aimed to capacitate youth employment stakeholders in Nigeria to develop and implement results measurement plans for youth employment programmes and contribute to the monitoring and evaluation framework of the Nigerian Youth Employment Action Plan (NIYEAP). The training is part of the ILO and UN DESA’s work in supporting the capacity of youth employment stakeholders in the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of policies and programmes promoting decent jobs for youth.
The six weeks course was a perfect opportunity for NGYouthSDGs to design the framework of a soon to be launched youth digital skills programme for young people across Nigeria. The National Project Coordinator, Joshua Alade said “the course helped me understand which results measurements can help to determine the effectiveness of youth employment programmes and understand their impact on the labour market outcomes of young people. In a country like Nigeria, young people face significant challenges in finding decent work and it is important to have an evidenced based approach to inform policies and programmes for young people.”
Euphemia Uwandu, who leads monitoring and evaluation at Nigeria Youth SDGs Network said “the results chain is the heart of monitoring and evaluation and it feeds into other stages of the structure. I am a firm believer of learning is in doing and this course by the ILO will help me get better at my role within the network”.
Chidinma Okoye who is the Anambra State Coordinator said ” I will be applying my learning to every project henceforth especially with regards to the result chain where I would identify the input, activities, outcome and impact. Then identify the indicators for each of the result chain and then know how to monitor and evaluate the project.”
