The SDGs Playbook is a Resource Material which outlines and Simplifies the Global Goals and Targets into 200+ actions – Rianat Wahab

The Ogun State Chapter of the Nigeria Youth SDGs Network launched the SDGs Playbook on Wednesday, 29th, September 2021. The event which was facilitated by the State Champion Ms Rianat Wahab brought together 25 Advocates and Representatives of different bodies of Non-Governmental Organisations such as YALI Ogun and FUNAAB SDGs Act Group among many others. The event was held in Saje, Abeokuta which is a Semi-Urban Area of Ogun State, Nigeria to commemorate SDGs Playbook Launch. The idea was to introduce youth and stakeholders in the community to the SDGs Playbook to foster their activities on the localisation of the Sustainable Development Goals.

 

The State Coordinator, Idris Bashiru appreciates the 3 Representatives from the Ministry of Budget and Planning especially Mrs Funmi Oshodi (Front Desk Officer of the SDGs Office). The Commissioner 1, Ogun State Civil Service Commission Hon. Adebowale Ojuri was appreciated for his resourceful address and presence. In his address, he applauded our willingness to contribute to humanity and pledged to further support Ogun State advocates and make sure their voices are heard.

 

The representative of the Government, Mrs Funmi Oshodi expressed excitement about the event and talked about how they contribute to the actualization of the Global Goals in their own little ways. She announced that the Ministry of Budget and Planning will be including the SDGs activities in Ogun State into the budget to foster collaboration, inclusion and to sustain youth growth and development.

 

The Ogun State Champion, Rianat Wahab summarised the purpose of the event. She narrated how the SDGs playbook was brought to life by other champions like herself, the role she played and how it was led by Dr Shadrach Akpem.

 

According to her “The SDGs Playbook is a resource material which outlines and simplifies the goals and targets into 200+ actions in order for individuals to understand how to solve the sustainable goals in a more easy way instead of waiting for the governments or society to take action. ”

 

In a bid to further engage the youths in incorporating actions from the SDGs Playbook into their daily lives, copies of the SDGs Playbook were shared with the advocates and stakeholders to read and share their thoughts on preferred actions to implement. Four advocates shared their SDGs journey and experiences. Ifeoluwa, the coordinator for YALI Ogun talked about his contributions in making an impact in his society by leading impact-based projects to help children in rural areas to get access to quality education, embark on projects that empower underprivileged women and so on. Ajaga Esther, who is so passionate about climate change, narrated her actions in reducing climate change.

 

The event was spiced up with an SDGs quiz competition where five volunteers were asked questions on SDGs in order to access their knowledge on them. There were 3 winners who were given printed copies of the SDGs Playbook by honourable (Barr) Adebowale Ojuri and Rianat (the Nigeria Youth SDGs Ogun State Champion) in encouragement.
