The Jubilee Fellowship Programme is an initiative of the Federal Government of Nigeria to support 20,000 graduates of higher institutions towards professional development and jobs in private sector organizations across the country. The one year programme administered by UNDP Nigeria is scheduled to provide the first path to jobs for 100,000 young Nigerians under the age of 30 over the next five years.
In developing this fellowship programme, UNDP Nigeria consulted with young groups and youth stakeholders across Nigeria over a two months period to ensure that the programme is the right fit which shows UNDP Nigeria’s drive to meaningfully engage youth.
With the recent Nigeria Bureau of Statistics report that one third of young Nigerians are out of jobs, the Jubilee Fellowship Programme provides an opportunity towards ensuring decent work for youth following the impact of COVID19. The programme will support fellows with soft skills development to ensure that they will be able to get jobs or become entrepreneurs at the end of the fellowship.
In other to participate in the inaugural Jubilee Fellows Program, prospective fellows will need to be under 30 years old and must have completed or gotten an exemption letter from the National Youth Service Corps program between the year 2017 and 2020. This measure is to ensure that fellows are individuals who need the programme to get decent work.
The Jubilee Fellowship Programme will build the confidence of fellows in entering a competitive job market as well as provide a competitive monthly wage for the fellowship year. Fellows will have the opportunity to share knowledge, leverage resources and networks from UNDP Nigeria, and partner with private and civil society organizations, increasing access to decent work and productive employment beyond the fellowship year.
With a growing youth population and the impact of COVID19 crippling the opportunities of recent graduates to get into jobs, the Jubilee Fellowship Programme will help 20,000 youth in Nigeria to gain exposure while earning good pay while the host organizations benefit from world-class talents.
The Jubilee Fellowship Programme will be launched on Wednesday, June 2nd 2021 by the Vice President of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbanjo. You can register for the virtual launch here.
